I have a second chance to right wrongs, even if it means I’ll lose my family and life.

Sid Virgil

FBI analyst Dalton Reed’s name is on my hit list, but I know I won’t do it. Though I haven’t seen Dalton in twenty-seven years, we have a history together. He saved my life many years ago, and he doesn’t even realize it. Now, it’s my turn to save him and his young son. Saving Dalton puts my life at risk with my assassin family, but I owe it to him, and I owe it to myself.

Dalton Reed

Sid, goddamn, Virgil. I haven’t seen him in twenty-seven years, and I now find him standing between me and my escape. He insists he wants to help me, but I know he was sent to kill me. I don’t trust him. He was a bastard to me growing up as a teen, and I’m sure he’s a bastard now. He’s a killer. But I’m being hunted, and I have no choice but to let Sid help. My son is all that matters.

Can these two men see beyond their past to save Dalton before it’s too late? Can Sid’s family forgive him for his betrayal?

Deanna’s Review: 4.5 ⭐️

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC (advance reader copy) of this book, and boy, am I happy I did. This book is the third in Dixon’s The District series but can be read as a standalone. This book gives us the story of Sid Virgil, an assassin who works for The District, and Dalton Reed, an FBI agent in way over his head.

When Sid is assigned to kill Dalton, he instantly knows he’s going to do the exact opposite of that despite what it may mean to the organization he works for. Sid and Dalton share a tumultuous past, and their reunion is just as turbulent. Sid manages to get Dalton to trust him and his intentions to keep Dalton and his son safe, and the two end up on the run from hitmen hired by the government.

This book is high on suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat and up all night reading just to see who was behind it all. I highly recommend you check out His Reluctant Savior by Courtney W. Dixon, available in paperback or on KU.
